May 18, 2016 Why Still in North Ft Myers, FL

Today was very frustrating, we were both up and started to get ready to be “ON THE ROAD AGAIN”.  I started with hooking up the car first step was to connect the tow bar and then the fun began, actually I had some other thoughts…

When I started to connect the tow bar one of the bars would not extend the other one was a little stiff but came out OK and I lubed it and it worked OK.  So now back to my trouble one.  I tried to us a hammer thinking it would slid out without too much problem, it was a nice thought but no success.  Next I called the manufacturer and they said it is old enough that I should rebuild the unit and as part of that said “the bar needs to come out” but no real suggestion on how to do that.  So I thought there must be someone in the area that could repair the unit but everyone I called either said no parts or we don’t service that brand.  I finally call one company and they said bring it in and they would look at it and see what could be done.  OK so when I walked into the shop the owner said Oh we can’t look at it now you will have to leave it and if we have to order part should be able to fix it but would not commit to a time frame.  I decided it was time for me to either fix or break the unit.

Next phase, stopped and pickup a 5/8″ allen wrench, pickup Virena, some tools that I had put in the Motorhome and headed to the house to work on the problem.  Took the arm off of the tow bar and found a old cold chisel and a 2.5 pound hammer and started to drive the arm out to the extended position, this was a very slow process but finally succeeded.  So now put everything I’d taken apart back together cleaned up and headed back to the Motorhome.  We decided it was too late today to head out so instead we did a little grocery shopping.  So only thing left was to connect tow bar to car and make sure it connected OK and I felt like it was a success.

So to finish up the day went for a walk and ran into Vern who lead the Along Sider Class that I recently completed what a pleasant surprise.  We had a nice talk and committed to contact each other when I’m back home.

Hope you are having a great day
