Lake Ontario – Henderson Harbor area
So after all that exercise seeing Niagara Falls we decided that an easy time was in order. So Picked “The Willows on the Lake” campground on Lake Ontario near Henderson Harbor was in order. Here is a sunset from the second day we were at the campground, going going gone
And after relaxing for a couple of days it was time to see the local sights. With a visit to Tibbits Point Lighthouse
And it would not be complete without a picture of my lovely wife enjoying the afternoon by Lake Ontario on a perfect day.
From the Lighthouse we went into Sacketts Harbor, New York where we checked out the town that many buildings have been restored.
After checking out the downtown area we walked to the Sacketts Harbor Battlefield and information about the War of 1812 and the part that Sacketts played in the overall outcome of the war see http://www.sacketsharborbattlefield.org/ very interesting reading.
While in Sacketts Harbor also took a tour of the canal boat Lois McClure, for more information click here. I was surprised to hear that the boat was capable of caring over 100 tons of cargo which would be hand loaded and unloaded this type of work was not for wimps! Also a surprise was the boat was fitted with sails used when on Lake Champlain or one of the great lakes, the sails would be taken down when going through the canals because of low bridges and then put backup when on more open waters.
We have also been stopping regularly at road side farm stands to get our fix of fresh fruits and vegetables.
